URGENT HELP FOR VETERAN FAMILIES
Emergency Financial Assistance for Veterans in Texas
When a rent check, an electric bill or a week of groceries stands between a veteran's family and losing their home, CVF steps in. We are a small volunteer-run 501(c)(3) in Seguin, and we help veteran families living in Guadalupe, Comal and Bexar counties. Here is exactly what we can pay for, what we need from you, and where to turn if you live somewhere else.
If you are in crisis right now, do not wait on an application
Veterans Crisis Line: 988, then press 1 (call or text, 24/7) • Homeless Veterans Hotline: 1-877-424-3838 (24/7, and it works outside Texas too) • Essential needs referral: dial 2-1-1
What CVF's emergency assistance covers
CVF helps with the bills that become emergencies: rent, utilities such as electricity, gas and water, and other basic needs such as groceries or a repair that keeps a household standing. When you apply, you tell us the landlord, utility company or vendor and the exact amount owed.
We pay the vendor directly — never cash
Every approved payment goes straight to your landlord, utility company or vendor, or is provided as a gift card for the specific need. This is one of the three things every applicant agrees to before we can accept a request, and it is how CVF keeps donor dollars tied to a real bill.
CVF is funded by donations and event proceeds, so we cannot promise that every request is fully covered. We approve assistance based on the funds we actually have in hand, and a partial payment is common. What we do promise is that the request is read by a person, not an automated system.
Who can apply
Where you live
Your home address must be in Guadalupe, Comal or Bexar County, Texas. We check the address you enter against the county you select when you submit, so applications from other states and counties are turned away with referral help instead. A P.O. box cannot be used as a home address.
Who you are
A veteran, or a family member applying on a veteran's behalf — spouse, child, parent or other relative. You will state your relationship to the veteran and whose service record you are claiming.
BEFORE YOU START
What to have ready
The request form takes about ten minutes. Having these on hand keeps it from stalling:
The veteran's DD214
Discharge documentation is required and is uploaded with the form. This is how CVF verifies military service.
A government-issued photo ID
A driver's license, state ID or similar, uploaded with the form.
The bill or notice you need help with
Landlord or property company name and phone, lease or account number, monthly rent and amount past due — or the utility company, account number and amount owed.
Your household basics
How many people live in the home, monthly household income, and a phone number and email we can reach you at.
A short description of the hardship
What happened, what you have already tried, and any other assistance you are receiving.
An emergency contact
A name, relationship and phone number for someone we can reach if we cannot reach you.
How to apply
- 1
Open the confidential request form
Fill in applicant information, the veteran's service details, the hardship, and the exact amount and vendor you need paid.
Go to the financial assistance form - 2
Upload the DD214 and photo ID
Both uploads are required. Without them CVF cannot verify service, and the request cannot be approved.
- 3
Confirm the three policy agreements
You acknowledge that CVF pays vendors rather than giving cash, that approval is not guaranteed and may be partial, and that your information is accurate.
- 4
Sign and submit
Type your full name as your signature, add the date, and submit. A CVF volunteer reviews the request and pays the vendor directly when approved.
OUTSIDE OUR THREE COUNTIES
If you live outside Guadalupe, Comal or Bexar County
CVF's own funds only reach these three counties, so we cannot take an application from elsewhere — but these programs can, and several of them serve all fifty states.
